Tank Fixation

Vespa Sprung Saddle Vespa Sprung Saddle

Because of my back pain from the ordinary and unsprung saddle and not owning the special tank which is around 100€ on ebay (used condition), I had the idea to build my own sprung saddle. Furthermore I didn't want to spend another 100€ for the original V50 sprung saddle and hence bought a cheap version from India for round about 30€. Well, not really something I would recommend because the quality did really suck and required some refurbishing extra work as well as this version had to be upgraded with a hinge. At least it was cheap.

Tank Fixation

I decided to build the construction in a way that I can connect the saddle to a center bolt, held by a thumb nut. The center bolt sits on a plate which is attached to the original two screws at the front of the tank. I use the little hollow of the tank to take and hide the screw head. (A bit tight in my case and I had to flatten the screw head a little bit to make it perfectly fit). The plate is made of stainless steel.

Cover

The cover material is made of aluminium and has been shaped based on a pre-cut mask. At the rear middle I cut out a section to take up the center bolt. I got a hinge from the hardware store which I had to rebuild in order to fit the construction. This one is screwed to the bottom side of the saddle.

Finally adjust the saddle and center it. Mark the position and drill the wholes that will hold the srews that fix the saddle to the plate. Connect the saddle with the proper screws, close the saddle and add the thumb nut.Done.

Finally no more back pain, cheaply built and acceptable from a design point of view.
